Vet Anti-Virus
Vet Anti-Virus has an informative installation (and uninstallation) routine that puts you in the right mood from the start, with a Configuration Wizard that takes you through customising the program. Once installed, it has excellent setup options and a wonderful Options Wizard that will take you through each of the options available. The program has a familiar Windows Explorer look, making it easy to use. Its virus detection is excellent. It won't disinfect viruses within zip files, but it handles all others. Vet provides Auto Download to update your program, and monitors Internet downloads and email attachments.Things get a bit less rosy with more use. Its interactive scanning alerts are terse, merely saying that a virus has been found without informing you of options or the action taken by the program itself. While the program is highly configurable, some configuration options require fiddling with the registry -- an absurdly difficult approach. It's a serviceable program on the whole, but very slow when opening documents containing infected macros, and even though it cleans the macros effectively, the application performance remains sluggish whenever an affected document is open.
